About Me
David Stevens is a Boston-based musician, with a diverse career as a performer, educator, and music manager. An active saxophonist and woodwind doubler in Greater Boston for the past decade, David actively performs orchestral, chamber, jazz and experimental music, with performances with the Plymouth Philharmonic, Worcester Symphony, Lowell Chamber Orchestra, International Contemporary Ensemble, ALEA III, and Hub New Music. He has appeared in recitals at MIT’s Tull Concert Hall, Jordan Hall, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and Boston Conservatory at Berklee.
As founding member of the Jamaica Plain Saxophone Quartet, he performs at weddings, parties, corporate events, and community concerts around New England since 2018. As an in-demand woodwind doubler for musicals, he has performed at venues such as American Repertory Theatre (A.R.T.), Wheelock Family Theatre, Company Theatre at Norwell.
With 22 years of teaching experience, David is on faculty at Gordon College as Applied Instructor of Saxophone, Powers Music School (clarinet, saxophone, and chamber music), and maintains a private studio of woodwind, theory, and chamber music students in Dedham. He has done educational outreach with the Boston Landmarks Orchestra, Boston Philharmonic, Collage New Music, and Longy School of Music.
Since 2021, David has run Abstraction Music Group LLC, working with a roster of composers, performers, and projects; through this company, he provides services ranging from marketing and promotion, engraving and copyist, to concert production and fundraising. His work in contemporary music comes stems from his time as Gunther Schuller’s last live-in assistant in 2015.
